Most of the bosses in the Dark Souls series are horribly disfigured monsters or stark raving madmen, but Sif is ultimately a loyal dog who is just trying to defend its master's honor. In a franchise that's become famous for placing gamers in David versus Goliath's scenarios, in which the player is David, the battle against Sif is considered to be one of the hardest encounters to see through due to its extreme, emotional intensity. But it isn't until players knock Sif down to about less than half health that the depths of the creature's sadness truly start to set in despite being gravely wounded, Sif will continue to try fighting the player character, even limping towards them with its master's blade still clutched within its jaws. The moves and techniques Sif utilizes during the boss battle against the creature imply that the Great Grey wolf may have taught a few moves by Artorias, as the legendary knight's fighting style is famously comprised of similar attacks. In battle, Sif wields Artorias' greatsword by biting the blade's handle and gracefully spinning and flipping about with the greatsword in it's mouth. Sif's story is tragic enough to make most players become instantly sympathetic to the beast, but it isn't until players face off against the Great Grey wolf that they come to understand the gravity of the poor creature's disposition. Crestfallen, Sif took up Artorias' sword with its fangs and the Great Grey wolf resigned itself to guarding the grave of its master in Darkroot Garden. Artorias was twisted into a foul creature in his own right, but he managed to spare Sif a similarly grave fate. Sensing impeding doom, Artorias used his greatshield to protect Sif, leaving himself completely defenseless to the Abyss' onslaught. The wills of Artorias and Sif were strong, ironclad even, but they were not enough to withstand the corrupting influence of the Abyss. As Artorias and Sif fought onward, they grew closer and closer to source of the corruption in their lands, the infamous Abyss. Sif is the loyal pet of the fabled knight Artorias and the wolf stuck by its master's side through thick and thin, fighting seemingly unending hordes of undead creatures and twisted monstrosities. The Great Grey Wolf Sif is undisputedly the most famous canine in the Dark Souls series, though this is due to its tragic story.
